Pace By Step Directions
1. Paint a canvas black & draw the skull with chalk
Paint one coat of mars black acrylic paint onto your canvas and let it dry. Then utilize a piece of chalk to depict the skull.
Start past drawing a large circle with an opening at the bottom. Yous can also trace a circle for this step.
So depict the cheek bones under the unfinished circle. Draw a curved line going inwards and then outwards. Repeat that line on both sides.
Then draw the jaw. Draw ii vertical lines that bend on the lesser not create the chin.
ii. Paint the skull white
Utilize a three/4″ flat wash brush and titanium white to pigment the shape of the skull white.
Tip: you can utilise a circular brush to assistance ascertain the edges of the skull.
Erase any leftover chalk lines with a soft, damp wipe (I use baby wipes to erase my chalk).
three. Paint the optics, nose and rima oris
Utilize a round castor to paint two eyes mars black.
Then paint a eye for the nose.
Use a small round castor (5/0 round) to paint the mouth. Pigment grinning line just under the cheek bones.
Then paint vertical lines to divide the teeth. Start in the middle with a vertical line. Then paint three more smaller vertical lines on each side of the eye line (for a total of 7 lines).
Paint curved lines over and nether each of the vertical lines to create the teeth.
4. Paint flowers, designs, dots and various decorations
Next load your palette with colors that you would like to decorate your skull with! I chose a wide multifariousness of colors including: medium magenta, principal yellow, turquoise blueish, cadmium orange hue, pyrrole ruddy and primary blueish. You can use this palette or choose your own colors!
Employ your #four circular brush to decorate the skull. I started with medium magenta and painted minor half circumvolve shapes adorned effectually the eyes.
You tin can paint a flower on the top of the caput! To do my blossom, I used primary yellow and the #4 round brush to pigment the shape of the blossom.
Then pigment the bloom in. I used cadmium orange hue for the base of operations of the petals and composite it into the yellow. For the centre, pigment it a darker contrasting color such as pyrrole scarlet or cadmium orangish hue.
On the cheek bones y'all can paint another design! I used main blue to paint a mandala pattern.
On the chin, I painted a vine and leafage pattern using primary blue mixed with titanium white.
Continue to add more fun, whimsical designs. You can do small dots, spirals and more flowers. You tin can practice a pocket-size heart in the olfactory organ and outline some of your patterns. For the large blossom at the top, I loosely outlined the petals with mars black and the v/0 round brush.
five. Paint roses
I have a tutorial for how to pigment these simple roses. You tin see that here!
Tip: pyrrole red is an opaque scarlet that volition show up on the blackness groundwork. If you don't have pyrrole red, you can employ another red but information technology may non requite good coverage or be opaque plenty. A mode to go the color to show up is mixing titanium white in it and then it will be brilliant confronting the dark background.
To exercise the roses, use a #8 round brush and pyrrole cherry-red to pigment the bones shape. This is like an organic shaped circle with a sort of wavy circumference.
And so load your round brush in white (without rinsing it). First in the eye of the rose and paint a small curved stroke. Alternate your strokes to form petals that stagger.
The white volition create the petals of the rose as it blends with the red on the canvas. Repeat this technique to create several roses on your sugar skull's head.
Then utilise a #4 circular brush to paint the leaves. Load your brush in hooker's green hue permanent and titanium white. Mix the white with the green (and so that it volition show up against the black background of the sheet).
Paint other leaf patterns on your skull. Use the round brush to paint spiral vines and pocket-size rounded leaves.
6. Paint other floral decor around the skull
Yous can get really artistic around the sugar skull! I did some more leaf and vine patterns on the left and correct.
Then I did bones pointed flowers in the lower left and right corners. I used pyrrole red and chief yellowish to pigment the petals and center circles.
Add more details to your sugar skull painting! I did some yellow roses in the upper left and right corners. I besides decided to pigment white daisies inside the eyes.
Finished!
That'due south it! Such a fun and easy painting with so many customizable options!
